blynk: mobile app

Designed for: Brilliant Lighting

Brand: Blynk

Role: Art direction, UI/UX

Applications: Mobile app

The Brief: To create user friendly visual for Brilliant Lighting first app for smart globe range.
The Challenge: The app is existing an app made to specifically suits overseas market and didn't suit Australian market. With limited options on what can be done due to costing and efficiency, user experience needs to be improved without changing the skeleton of the apps.
The Solution: Working closely with the product manager, we altered the structure of the app. This includes menu control and function, copy writing as well visual. As part of the process, we deleted some function making it simpler and more efficient. We did some user testing then comes the branding and visual. Modern and simple are our approach for high tech products range.
The Result: Simpler, easier to understand and more efficient app with a branding and visual to suit the product personality.

fifi(lippie): product & branding

Designed for: FifiLippie

Brand: FifiLippie

Role: Product developer, owner & strategic planner. Lip balm maker, Creative, UX & Visual Design design.

Applications: Product - Lip balm, Branding, Packaging and Responsice Website

Product photography: Owned

The Brief: To create a lip balm that is natural, chemical free, eco friendly and true. Simple but lots of goodness! Not made in a factory but hand-poured where quality is the most priority.
The Challenge: Similar products are around, costing has been a concern and lack of understanding on true natural goods from prospective customer.
The Solution: Branding and packaging play an important role to support the uniqueness and exclusivity of this hand made product. To differentiate this product from others - stays true to its ingredients - means that packaging are made using raw craft board, minimal printing and ingredients are sourced from a supplier in Australia who sells naturals products only. Product availability are limited and sold in small batches. On the marketing side, website is a strategic solution for education and to story tell the origins of this product.

Designed for: Secondo

Brand: Secondo

Role: Creative & Visual design

Applications: Responsive Website

Photography: Sourced from Unsplash.com

The Brief: Secondo is a premier recycle and consignment boutique of pre-loved garments and accessories in Melbourne. The task is to refresh the website to look more modern and professional.
The Challenge: Due to the nature of the business being a recycle and consignment boutique, there are only one item for each product depending on what people supply to the shop. The original request was to use product images to promote new items or items on sale but there are no stock items and products are varied widely.
The Solution: Instead of focusing on products as visual aid, the approach was to play with the lifestyle images that shows indications of what they are selling. Fashion and lifestyle inspired shots are ideal for the business and works well to demonstrate what is in store. It is less maintenance for the business owner because the image are indicative and the use of large images are ideal to achieve the modern look they are after.

brilliant gold: branding

Designed for: Brilliant Lighting

Brand: Brilliant Gold

Role: Creative team lead, Art direction and Visual design

Applications: Branding, responsive website, Brochure, Packaging.

Graphic Designer / Finished Artist: Stephen Bettess

Product photographer: Andrew Wuttke

The Brief: To introduce decorative luxury range to the market.
The Challenge: Brilliant Lighting new range, tapping in to specialty range. Being in fast moving and high volume environment, cost and quantity are a big challenge. The brand has to look exclusive without being too far away apart with Brilliant Lighting core range.
The Solution: Being an exclusive range, the look and feel for the branding is to enhance luxury. Working closely with product manager and sales team, the range is being given a special name - Brilliant gold. Following WGSN trends on interior and packaging design, creative recommendation was to use minimal colours and lots of negative spaces. Proposed applications were packaging in full colour sticker on brown box, Brochure with matt and foil on the logo and a mini website. The packaging are not on display hence we spent less on the packaging to make more on the brochure. Brochure proposed was using folding treatment unlike typical A4 brochure where it is a book, this is to generate different feel and still work within designated costing.
The results: Different look on the range compared to the core range and exclusive treatment and finishing on brochures generated interests from the re-sellers.

brilliant: freedom mix & match

Designed for: Brilliant Lighting / Freedom

Brand: Freedom

Role: Creative team lead (art direction to finished art), Project management, Style guide design & implementation.

Applications: Packaging

Graphic designer / Finished artist: David Cross and Jess Lowther

Product photography: Andrew Wuttke

The Brief: To come up with a new concept design for mix & match series. It was a seasonal range selection for Freedom.
The Challenge: This range was launched as a seasonal range to compliment Freedom's core range. The packaging, whilst has to look different also needs to be in-line with Freedom brand. Timing was challenging. This series was design to suit more than 40 different products and artwork were to be produced within 6 weeks. Experimenting with different materials and production being done overseas, project planning and design management was crucial to ensure deadlines were met.
The Solution: The original concept was using bright colours but evolved. Design was then simplified for production to suit budget and guideline. Using different material, brown box and PVC plastic tube, the mix & match packaging looked special but the layout is still clean and simple in-line with Freedom core range.
The results: Special edition packaging approved by Freedom and on the shelf in mid 2014 - mid 2016. The series made a point of difference in store and yet still suits the brand guideline.
